DescriptionThe recent transition to offering hybrid flexible (HyFlex) course opportunities required quick action on technology purchasing and installation. Ideally, other stakeholder perspectives will be considered, regarding what technology to use and how it will be used. I will share data and perspectives from ongoing HyFlex courses about the technological needs and desires of students and instructors. Students indicate particular preferences about the visual material they are provided in virtual synchronous class experiences. Importantly, those preferences can be addressed in many classrooms with relatively minor changes in technological infrastructure. Sharing these perspectives should inform future decisions on purchasing and classroom renovation.
OutcomesThe goals of this presentation are to help the audience:
- Understand what content online learners want to see on their screen during synchronous HyFlex class meetings
- Learn about an inexpensive hardware and software configuration that suits this student preference, and
- Reflect on possible discipline-specific A/V preferences for optimal HyFlex delivery
