Description With the various shifts in course modes taking place over the past year and a half, the design of courses has also transitioned. One particular type of courses that needed to adapt were lab based courses. This session will include an interactive discussion regarding the adoption of virtual labs and how that impacted the student transferability of the skills mastered online with those required in a physical lab. The presenters will share experiences from a large introductory chemistry course that transitioned from in-person labs to virtual labs. Survey results will also get highlighted as part of the discussion to articulate the experiences of the students in the course. Opportunities for others to share their campus experiences along with tips for curricular design will get included.
Outcomes
Discuss curricular design for virtual lab activities as well as the pre and post lab activities.
Reflect on student feedback and how it can impact iterative online course design.
Explore the transfer of knowledge beyond a virtual lab activity.
